SPIRITS of the OPIUM DRAGON by RSConnett SPIRITS of the OPIUM DRAGON by RSConnett
Los Angeles, December 2005. A Mixed Media Painting of Acrylic, Collage, Gouache, Iridescent, metallic's & India Ink on a 12" X 16" canvas.

The faces on the two headed dragon are taken from a 19th century photograph of a Chinese Opium Merchant and owner of a Shanghai brothel. A man who existed in history. The face illustrated in the upper right corner is an addict, and the faces on the upper left are my visions of opium demons.

This is really awesome. I've had it in my favorties for a while and i think it is worth what you auctioned it off for, if not more. it's timeless!

You are a MASTER. This is fantastic, eerie and thought-provoking. I wanted to bid on this, but I see that it's a little out of my range at the moment. Besides, this is priceless work.

Well good luck to us both my friend!

Isn't DA like a multi tentacled beast that draws you in and (almost) won't let you go? :spin:

Yes, I run scenerio and statistical catastrophic models [EQ, Terror and Wind] that churn for hours at work. Flashbacks to your old work. :p Gives me plenty of time to surf the web.

all of the characters seem oddly familiar. hmmmm. interesting image. what prompted this painting? i love the background, like a dirty wall in chinatown.

Cool! That's exactly the feeling I was looking for - that gritty oriental Chinatown, Bangkok alley look ... Thanks for the comment!

What a completely beautiful addiction you have rendered, demons and all! See, the festive season can't be all bad and judging by your auction you may have some big bikkies coming your way. Thanks for sharing your unique gifts :D

I'm delighted at all the feedback I'm getting on this painting L - More than I've gotten on any one piece in the past. Lot's of e-mails. It will be interesting to see what DA thinks.
